When a woman makes a dough from 5 lbs. / 2.25 kilos of flour or more, she then has the biblical obligation to separate off a piece of dough with a blessing, ie, the mitzvah of separating challah. At the time that she makes the blessing, this commandment is so holy that it opens the gates of Heaven and it is a very auspicious time to pray for all one's family, friends, and personal needs.
